Lawn Chair Theatre – Outdoor Movies on the Lawn
New Location! The beloved Lawn Chair Theatre series kicks off this Friday, May 23, 2025, at the Imperial Centre for the Arts & Sciences (270 Gay St.), with a showing of the hit movie Wicked. The screening starts at 6:00 PM, and concessions will be available for purchase. In case of rain, the event will move indoors to the Booker T. Theater. This cozy and historic setting ensures the show goes on—rain or shine!
This series is perfect for all ages and a great way to spend a Friday night with family or friends—completely free!
First Friday Night Market – Downtown Street Fest
Started on May 2, 2025, and continuing on the first Friday of each month through September (June 6, July 4, August 1, and September 5), downtown Rocky Mount transforms into a lively street fair from 7–10 PM. Located at the corner of Tarboro and SE Main Streets, the market features live music, food trucks, lawn games, artisan vendors, and more.
It’s free for attendees—and vendors enjoy no booth fees—so it’s the perfect time to stroll, shop, and soak up the community vibes. Each month brings something new, from fresh performers to fun pop-ups, making this a great way to kick off your weekend downtown.
Downtown Live! Concert Series – Music on the Lawn
The Downtown Live! concert series returns to the Imperial Centre lawn with high-energy performances throughout the summer. The first show is Thursday, May 29, 2025, featuring Love Tribe, a crowd-favorite rock band. Doors open at 5:00 PM and the music starts at 6:00 PM.
More concert dates and artists will be announced soon, with each show happening on a Thursday evening. Bring a blanket or lawn chair, pack a picnic, or grab dinner nearby and enjoy great music under the stars. This free series is presented by the City of Rocky Mount with support from local sponsors.
Juneteenth Community Empowerment Festival – Celebrate Freedom
Mark your calendars for Friday–Sunday, June 20–22, 2025, for Eastern North Carolina’s leading Juneteenth celebration. This three-day Community Empowerment Festival commemorates the emancipation of enslaved African Americans with a powerful mix of entertainment, education, and community pride.
Friday, June 20: Kick-off at Five Points (Washington, Tarboro & Rose Streets)
Saturday & Sunday, June 21–22: The celebration continues at the Helen P. Gay Rocky Mount Historic Train Station lawn (100 Coastline St.)
